CERN News: A New Chapter Begins for Particle Physics

CERN is entering an exciting new chapter in 2026. After years of experiments and discoveries, the Large Hadron Collider has completed its latest physics run and is now entering a major period of upgrades and maintenance. The work is part of CERN’s Long Shutdown 3 programme, which will prepare the machine for its future High Luminosity phase.

The upgraded collider is expected to produce many more particle collisions, giving scientists a much larger amount of data to study.
