Companion is a science fiction thriller that starts with what looks like a normal relationship and slowly reveals that things are not quite what they seem. The film mixes mystery, suspense, and dark humour to create a story that keeps you questioning the people on screen.
The story follows Iris, a young woman who goes away for a weekend with her boyfriend, Josh, and a group of friends. At first, everything seems like a normal getaway. However, as the weekend continues, Iris begins to realise that something is seriously wrong. The people around her are hiding secrets, and she may not be able to trust anyone.
One of the most interesting things about Companion is the way it plays with the idea of relationships and control. Iris is not simply dealing with a dangerous situation. She is also forced to question what she knows about herself and the person she believes she loves.
The film keeps changing direction, which makes it difficult to predict what will happen next. Just when you think you understand the situation, another piece of information changes everything. This keeps the story exciting without making it feel too complicated.
I also liked the way Companion mixes serious ideas with moments of dark comedy. Some scenes are uncomfortable, but there are also moments that make you laugh because of how strange the situation becomes.
Overall, Companion is more than just a science fiction thriller. It explores love, trust, control, and what it really means to have freedom. It asks an interesting question about whether a relationship can truly be meaningful when one person has control over the other.
If you enjoy films that surprise you and make you question what is really happening, Companion is definitely worth watching.
