Hard Truths is a powerful film about family, loneliness, and the emotions that people sometimes struggle to express. Rather than telling a simple story with easy answers, the film focuses on everyday life and the complicated relationships between people.
At the centre of the story is Pansy, a woman who seems to be constantly angry and frustrated with the world around her. She can be difficult to be around, and her behaviour often pushes people away. However, as the story develops, it becomes clear that there is more behind her anger than first appears.
One of the most interesting parts of Hard Truths is the way it shows the difference between what people feel inside and what they show to others. Pansy is clearly struggling, but she does not always know how to explain what she is going through. Instead, her feelings come out as criticism, frustration, and anger.
The film also looks at her relationship with her sister, Chantelle. The two women have very different personalities and ways of dealing with life. Their relationship shows how families can sometimes be complicated. People can love each other deeply while still finding it difficult to understand one another.
I think Hard Truths feels realistic because it does not pretend that every problem can be solved quickly. Some emotions take time to understand, and sometimes people hurt others without fully realising what they are doing.
The film may not be an easy watch, but that is part of its strength. It encourages us to look beyond someone's behaviour and consider what they might be feeling underneath. Hard Truths is a reminder that everyone has struggles that we cannot always see.
