BFI Unveils Exciting Autumn Programme for Film Fans

The BFI has announced an impressive programme of screenings, seasons and special events taking place across BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX from September into early October 2026, offering something for film lovers with a wide range of interests.

A major highlight is a celebration of French filmmaker Claude Chabrol, exploring his influential career and distinctive approach to psychological thrillers. The programme will sit alongside a season dedicated to pioneering filmmaker Sarah Maldoror, shining a light on her powerful and poetic work and her contribution to African and international cinema.

The BFI will also celebrate the centenary of actor Harry Dean Stanton with a selection of films showcasing his memorable career, while Bryan Forbes will be honoured through screenings of his work and a special anniversary programme featuring a newly restored print of Whistle Down the Wind.

Elsewhere, S.O.U.L. FEST returns for its eighth year, celebrating Black British filmmaking through features, short films, industry events and special screenings. The programme also includes new releases, restored classics, filmmaker Q&As and appearances from notable names across the film industry.

With such a varied mix of cinema, from rediscovered archive treasures to contemporary releases and special events, the BFI’s upcoming programme promises a busy few weeks for audiences and a chance to discover both familiar favourites and films that deserve a fresh look.
