Dorset Museum & Art Gallery is set to open a major new summer exhibition celebrating archaeological discoveries and the excitement of uncovering ancient treasures. Treasure! will run from 13 June to 13 September 2026, offering visitors a fascinating journey through Britain’s past.
The exhibition will feature remarkable artefacts from prehistory, Roman Britain, Viking settlements, and Anglo-Saxon history, while placing a special spotlight on Dorset’s rich archaeological heritage. Visitors will explore how valuable possessions once owned by ancient communities were buried, hidden, or lost for centuries before being rediscovered through archaeological excavations and modern metal detecting.
A key highlight of the exhibition is the unveiling of new scientific research that could reshape our understanding of the earliest peoples of the Britannic islands. According to Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, these findings will provide fresh insight into Britain’s ancient communities and their way of life.
The exhibition will also include major loans from leading British museums, with some artefacts going on public display for the very first time. These rare objects will help tell powerful discovery stories and demonstrate how archaeology continues to transform our understanding of history.
Visitors can expect an immersive experience through innovative technology, including Holobox displays, holograms, projections, and sensory installations involving sound, touch, and smell. One standout attraction will bring a first-century Roman soldier to life alongside ancient weapons discovered at Hod Hill, one of Dorset’s most significant archaeological landmarks.
With interactive storytelling and rare historical treasures, Treasure! promises to be one of Dorset’s must-see cultural exhibitions this summer.
