Animals Everywhere! may look like a fun digital trail on the surface — and it is — but it’s also a key part of something much bigger happening at the Horniman. The project sits within the museum’s wider Nature + Love programme, an ambitious plan to help people connect more deeply with nature, right in the heart of south London.
Thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Gardens are gradually being reshaped with new family-friendly spaces, updated landscaping, and more accessible routes. The AR trail is one of the early pieces of this transformation, designed to encourage people to slow down, look closely, and explore.
What’s interesting is that the trail doesn’t replace nature it enhances your interaction with it. The digital animals act as a kind of invitation to notice what’s around you: the textures of the trees, the sweep of the paths, the quieter corners of the Gardens you might usually pass by.
Nature + Love is ultimately about building a sense of belonging and curiosity. Animals Everywhere! is a playful doorway into that mission something that invites visitors to step outdoors, look around, and see the Gardens with fresh eyes.
