The Colony Is Calling

Obsidian Entertainment is bringing its signature wit and storytelling back with The Outer Worlds 2, launching on October 29, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel will also be available on Game Pass from day one, ensuring it reaches as many players as possible.

Arcadia: A New World of Trouble

The action shifts to Arcadia, a system torn between corporate greed, scientific ambition, and cosmic chaos. Reality itself is unstable here, with mysterious rifts altering missions and choices. Unlike the first game’s Halcyon system, Arcadia promises fresh locations, stranger politics, and even more room for unpredictable player agency.

Power, Profit, and Pandemonium

The galaxy is alive with clashing forces:

  • The Protectorate, claiming to bring stability but serving their own interests.

  • Corporate powers, still as ruthless and manipulative as ever.

  • Fanatical scientists, blending religion and research in dangerous ways.

Whose side you take—or betray—will shape not only Arcadia’s fate, but your character’s own identity.

Flaws That Define You

The Traits and Flaws mechanic is one of the most fascinating systems making a comeback. Your actions dynamically shape your identity. If you frequently pickpocket, you might develop kleptomania. Suffer injuries too often, and phobias or weaknesses might arise. These flaws involve trade-offs, offering benefits in some areas while imposing limitations in others, creating a character that is uniquely yours.

Wild Weapons, Stranger Science

Obsidian is doubling down on creative combat. Expect the return of quirky science weapons, like the Shrink Ray, alongside bizarre armour and gadgets cobbled together from Arcadia’s materials. The combat design philosophy remains: blend absurdity with tactical depth, giving players tools that are both effective and hilarious.

Companions That Matter

Your ship won’t feel empty. Six new companions will join you, each with their own arcs, loyalties, and conflicts. Choices in dialogue and missions can strengthen or strain these relationships—sometimes locking off entire questlines. In true Obsidian style, the way you treat your crew will echo throughout the story.

Bigger Maps, Bolder Choices

The Outer Worlds 2 promises scale on every level: longer main storylines, more expansive side quests, larger and more varied maps. While the first game thrived on its sharp writing and focused worlds, this sequel is embracing ambition without losing its satirical edge.

A Price of Progress

The sequel enters the market at a higher premium, reflecting both its expanded scope and industry-wide pricing trends. While some fans bristled at the cost, Obsidian is betting on depth, replay ability, and polish to justify the price tag.

Why This Sequel Matters

The first Outer Worlds asked: “What if corporations ran space?” The sequel is asking a harder question: “What happens when reality itself begins to unravel under their grip?” With its mix of biting satire, character-driven storytelling, and chaotic combat, The Outer Worlds 2 isn’t just more of the same. It’s shaping up to be a sharper, stranger, and more expansive journey into the absurd.
